There are moments in the creative process when time stretches, bends, and appears to pause. Situations and circumstances that once felt like ‘blocks’ or obstacles eventually reveal themselves as initiations — thresholds that refine intention, deepen vision, and prepare the work to arrive precisely when it is meant to.
Crystal Dream Guardian emerged through such a process.
Although life events slowed the pace of its completion, the current beneath them was unwavering. The vision remained alive, luminous, and insistent. In the end, the painting was inevitable.
This piece is a self-portrait, though not bound to the physical. I appear as a fairy-angelic being — winged, otherworldly, with blue-tinted skin illuminated by soft pink highlights and subtle complementary warmth. It is not a depiction of escape, but of remembrance: the self beyond a single identity, beyond a single moment in time.
I sit upon an amanita muscaria mushroom, long associated with altered states, sacred thresholds, and journeys between worlds. At its stem rests a singular eye — a symbol of awareness embedded within the foundation itself. Nothing here is accidental; consciousness permeates even what appears structural or still.
Surrounding me are six evil eyes, three on each side, echoing balance, symmetry, and protection. In Kabbalistic thought, six reflects harmony within structure — the directions of space held together by a unifying center. These protective symbols are enveloped in glowing green orbs, much like in my painting Twilight’s Guardian, reinforcing the theme of vigilance without fear — guardianship rooted in love, not defense.
Ten points of light shimmer against the darkest regions of the background. Ten is the number of completion, of totality — a subtle nod to the Ten Sephiroth of the Tree of Life. These sparkles do not dominate the composition; they quietly affirm that even in shadow, illumination persists. In fact, as the sky deepens into darkness, the stars reveal their true intensity.
At the center, I hold a crystal ball — intentionally clear. Though I considered painting the word Ananta (अनन्त), the Sanskrit expression of infinity, I chose instead to leave it open — translucent and receptive. The future here is not fixed. Vision is not imposed. The crystal reflects potential itself — infinite, unclaimed, alive.
In this way, Crystal Dream Guardian becomes both sentinel and seer — a guardian not only of dreams, but of the sacred space in which dreams are allowed to form.
This painting began with the creation of three primed black canvases — three portals, three possible realities. Though only one has manifested fully so far, its completion carries the certainty that creation continues unfolding, precisely as intended.
I’m sharing several in-progress clips of the creation process — glimpses into the becoming, the devotion, and the quiet persistence behind the final work of art. They are part of the spell, part of the story.
